Emissions CalculatorIntroductionThe emissions calculator is provided to enable estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from energy sources for industrial scale operations. Industrial process emissions and fugitive emissions are excluded. It can also be used to calculate your financial exposure under an emissions trading scheme or carbon tax. Please refer to notes below calculator for details. To use the calculator enter the energy source usage and then click on
the Calculate button.
Notes:Greenhouse gas emissions are calculated by multiplying the energy used by an emission factor. The emission factor reflects the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted per amount of energy used. Emission factors
Sources of Emission Factors are listed below:
|
| Energy Type | Source of Emissions Factor |
| Petrol, Diesel, LPG, Gas and Electricity | NZ Climate Change Office NGA Application Guidelines |
|
Fuel Oil |
Ministry of Economic Development |
|
Coal |
NZ Climate Change Office NGA Application Guidelines |
The default emission factors can be changed by the user however they will revert to default values on page refresh.
The default rate of NZ$40/tonne carbon dioxide reflects the current international price of secondary CER emission units valid under the NZ ETS. The rate can be altered by the user.
The cost of emissions calculated here should be viewed as an estimate only.

Generation of emissions inventories for industrial sites can be
a complex and confusing task.
We assist firms by setting out the requirements taking into account the different protocols that exist between NZ Policy and international emissions accounting standards. In many cases fugitive emissions and industrial process emissions also need to be accounted for. Frazer Lindstrom has developed a standardised Excel template that provides a transparent and auditable assessment of client company emissions and the associated potential financial exposure. |
